Here at Little Ankle Biters we’re always delighted to discover an indoor day out for those miserable rainy days.
We went to the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery in Aylesbury on a spontaneous visit – it was an inset day and the last day of the summer holidays and I wanted to make the day special. We visited Lynx Gym in the morning (my youngest daughter’s most favourite place ever), we then had a cheeky lunch at the golden arches and we wanted the day to continue.
I had heard good things about the Roald Dahl’s Children’s Galllery and on visiting we were not disappointed. My eldest daughter has read most Roald Dahl books and absolutely loves them, and as a family we have seen Matilda and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory so my youngest is familiar with the stories too.
You purchase your ticket through the Buckinghamshire Museum next door and then walk around the corner to the glass elevator and ring the doorbell where one of the team will let you in, take your coats and show you the way.
The gallery is a fully interactive experience with exhibits inspired by Roald Dahl’s stories. My children had delight in crawling through Fantastic Mr Fox’s tunnel and looking at mini-beasts and other items through the telescopes inside James’ Giant Peach. They found the sounds they could make with the BFG exhibit hilarious and spent ages in the “freeze your own shadow” room.
The gallery is educational, interactive and fun and both my girls absolutely loved it and we’re now thinking of having my eldest daughter’s birthday party there.
We spent a good 2 hours in the gallery and then visited the Buckighamshire museum, which had a number of exhibits to keep the children entertained. The museum also has a café if you fancy a drink or something to eat while you’re there.
