Child Friendly Restaurants in Buckinghamshire

If you’re looking for child friendly restaurants in Buckinghamshire, here are our suggestions for eating out with kids. And we’d love to hear about your favourites if they haven’t made our list yet so we can get out and review them… all in the name of research!


The Walnut Tree, Bourne End

Best For… A great garden and play area

The Walnut Tree in Bourne End is a great place to head if you’re looking to eat out with the kids and enjoy a nice warm day. There’s a lovely garden at the back of the pub, it’s fully enclosed so nice and safe for little ones and also has a great fenced off play area for them to let off some steam while you sit back and relax. The menu is great with things like; fish goujons, chicken fingers, burger and pasta. They also do a great Sunday roast, with smaller portions for little tummies.

The Swan, Beaconsfield

Best For… Outdoor and indoor entertainment for kiddies

The Swan in Beaconsfield is a great family friendly pub, perfect for warm sunny days, but also a great option when you want to snuggle up inside next to the roaring fire! For starters there’s a fantastic large pub garden with a pirate ship so little ones can play and burn off some energy. Dogs are also welcome at The Swan. Inside there are boxes with children’s games to keep them happy when the weather calls off outside play. All food at The Swan is freshly cooked and there’s a great children’s menu, they even have plastic cups for really little ones.

The Old Queens Head, Penn

Best For… A great children’s menu

The Old Queens Head is a great 17th Century pub on border of Penn and Tylers Green, near Wycombe. What we love most about this pub is it’s attitude to children’s food. Firstly there’s a great kid’s menu with things like; mini cottage pie, herby gnocchi, sausages with creamy mash and southern fried chicken burger. But they’ll also do small portions of the adults menu should they prefer something there. Winner. There’s also a nice garden at The Old Queens Head for sunny days.

The Works, Aylesbury & High Wycombe

Best For… Sweet treats & killer pancakes

Based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe, The Works is the perfect place for a treat with the kiddies. Think waffles, savoury and sweet crepes and amazing handmade ice cream. Great for some weekend or after school fun.

The Swan Inn, Milton Keynes

Best For… An orchard garden and great food

The Swan Inn in Milton Keynes Village is a gorgeous 13th Century pub, with lots of impressive awards to certify it’s awesomeness! There’s a lovely orchard style garden outside for little ones to have a run around and enjoy some al fresco dining. Food wise the whole family will be happy here. As well as great meal options for adults there’s a fab children’s menu including meals like; vegetable lasagne, sausage & mash, cheeseburger, baby jacket potatoes and battered fish of the day. There’s also children’s portions of their cracking Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

The Palmer Arms, Dorney

Best For… Outdoor play space with yummy food

Just across the Berks/Bucks border is The Palmer Arms in the pretty village of Dorney. Fantastic food, served in a relaxed and friendly environment. The children’s menu is varied and offers tried and tested favourites including macaroni cheese, sausage and mash, burger, and much more. Outside there’s a wooden play frame and slide in an attractive garden perfect for the whole family.

The Old Fisherman, Shabbington

Best For… Riverside dining with an outdoor play area
Set on the River Thames in Shabbington sits The Old Fisherman, a pub and restaurant with a fantastic garden and play area where you can easily spend a good few hours on a warm day. For children there’s a big pick ‘n’ mix menu letting them add veg and potato dishes to suit them. Meals include hot dogs, build your own wraps and macaroni cheese.

Best For… A great pub garden

The Swan Inn is nestled in the picture perfect village of Denham in Buckinghamshire. On sunny days there’s a great pub garden for the kiddies to run around in while you chill out, drink in hand! Food at the Swan Inn is great, all freshly made using local produce. And inside on colder days there’s a lovely fire to snuggle up by.

The Pineapple, Dorney

Best For… Seriously amazing sandwiches

This is a great place to head if you’re a family with slightly older children. We’ve been going since ours were babies but be prepared to change a nappy in the car as there aren’t changing facilities. However, this is a great place to take kids. There’s a nice garden area for warm days, and you’ve got Dorney Lake and the Jubilee River minutes away if you fancy a family walk too. Menu wise The Pineapple is all about sandwiches, and they’re incredible. There are over 60 yummy sandwich combinations to choose from, and they also do a cracking roast dinner on a Sunday.

Jamie’s Italian, Milton Keynes

Best For… Healthy food for kids in a fun restaurant

Jamie Oliver has long been known for the amazing work he does with children’s nutrition and healthy eating, and his restaurants are a testament to that. This is a great option for eating out as a family. There’s always lots of keep them entertained over the meal in terms of colouring and activities, and the menu offers a fantastic range of healthy and yummy meals. You’ll find things like; happy chicken lollipops, fantastic fish stew and organic mini spaghetti and meatballs. What’s more, watch out for Kids Eat Free during some school holidays. Winner!

Best For… Pretending you’re dining by the Seine

Cote has restaurants in Marlow and Amersham in Buckinghamshire. Their Menu Enfants offers a great selection of tasty meals that will appeal to even the fussiest of little eaters. You’ll find things like; risotto, croque monsieur and cod goujons. What’s not to love?

Best For… Yummy breakfast for kiddies

Bill’s is guaranteed to be a hit with the kiddies. Children are catered for from breakfast through to dinner. If you’re out and about early doors little tummies will be spoilt for choice. Breakfast includes; buttermilk pancakes with fruit, bacon or sausage sarnie, eggs on toast and a Bill’s breakfast. For mains why not tempt them with steak and chips, a ham and cheese toastie, macaroni cheese or Little Bill’s Hamburger. You could make a day of it… we wouldn’t, wouldn’t we…? Bill’s is based in High Wycombe and Marlow.

Best For… Entertaining eating

A personal favourite with our little ones, Wagamama gives children the opportunity to branch out and try new flavours, even having a go with some chopsticks. The mini Japanese dishes on offer include; mini ramen, katsu curry, cod cubes and grilled chicken noodles. And they’ll love the informal bench style dining. Wagamama can be found in Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Milton Keynes and Milton Keynes Xscape.

Yo! Sushi

Best For… A novel lunching experience

With restaurants in Milton Keynes and High Wycombe, Yo! Sushi is a big hit with our little ones. The excitement of grabbing your food off a conveyer belt is almost too much for them to handle, and a water tap at the table… clearly it’s the little things that make us happy! But, if you have adventurous children this is a great place to take them.
