Burnham Donkey Derby

Saturday 26 May 2018, from midday

This bank holiday weekend bring the kiddies to Burnham Park on Priory Road (SL1 6DR) from midday for the annual Burnham Donkey Derby. This event attracts 2,500 visitors including families with children of all ages. 2018 marks the 27th anniversary of this family event which includes donkey racing and rides, arena events, a fun fair, stalls, rides, food and entertainment.

Teletubbies Live Show at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

Saturday 27 & Sunday 27 May 2018, 10.00am & 1.00pm

If you have a Teletubbies fan at home they’re going to absolutely love Teletubbies Live at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre! This is the first ever Teletubbies theatre show created especially for little people!

Join Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po in a show full of love and laughter, as they explore the magical world of Teletubbyland. Look out for the Tubby Phone, Noo-noo and the Sun Baby in a fun, bright and safe world which captures young children’s imaginations and encourages them to explore the world around them. Join in and enjoy beloved features from the TV series along with brand new songs.

Colourscape at Waddesdon Manor National Trust

26 May – 3 June 2018, 10.30am – 4.30pm

During spring 2018 an extraordinary experience of colour and light lands again on the Waddesdon lawns. A brand-new Colourscape with long sensational views will be installed on the Aviary glade.

By popular demand Waddesdon are bringing back Colourscape  with a brand-new structure created specially to exactly fit the Aviary glade.  Long views of intense colour and light stretch out – the longest view ever created in Colourscape will appear in the ‘Aviary Colourscape’. Enter a new world where you can explore intense light, colour and space in 56 interlinked chambers and encounter unusual musical experiences during your journey.

Each day there will be different music and dance performances – resident musician, Michael Ormiston creates family-friendly free-flowing workshops for all on weekdays and at weekends we present Hurdy-Gurdy, panpipes, dance, flutes from around the world and a spectacular theatre-piece with dance and acoustic costumes.

Returning to Waddesdon for its fourth year, Colourscape is for visitors of all ages and promises an experience you will not forget. Adult £5, Child £3 (Normal grounds admission applies).

Young Farmer’s Great Escape at Odds Farm Park

26 May – 3 June 2018

Calling all young farmers… Don’t miss the return of the exciting Seasonal Animal Demonstrations, plus lots of new traditional farming activities this May Half Term at Odds Farm Park. Activities include:

  • Kid goat bottle feeding
  • Join in with egg collecting and learn about where the eggs come from
  • Watch the hungry piggies being fed at Piggies Tea Time
  • Take the mini Land Rovers for a spin
  • Have a go at Welly Wanging
  • Jump aboard the Tractor & Trailer Ride.

Plus there will be all the usual fun on the farm, including; animal feeding, small animal petting, the amazing new water play attraction, the outside children’s play area, an inside soft play climbing frame and slides, indoor family restaurant, picnic areas, and more.

Meet the Beekeepers at Hughenden Manor

Monday 28 May 2018, 11.00am – 4.00pm

Find out about beekeeping and honey production with expert volunteer beekeepers and see Hughenden’s apiary of five active hives in the parkland. This is an accessible route, open to everyone, including dogs on leads. There’s no charge for this event (on top of your usual admission) and no need to book in advance.

Teddy’s Train Ride at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

Sunday 27 & Monday 28 May 2018

This Bank Holiday Weekend on the Sunday and Monday children with a teddy bear will get to ride free at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Aylesbury. There will be unlimited steam train rides all day for the whole family, including teddy! The Visitor Centre will be open, as well as the museum, café and shop. There are also lots of picnic tables should you wish to make the most of the forecasted dry weather and have a teddy bears picnic.

Roman Gladiators at the Chiltern Open Air Museum

Sunday 27 & Monday 28 May 2018

If you’re looking for a great educational and fun family day out this May Bank Holiday then come and see the Roman Gladiators battle at Chiltern Open Air Museum! Watch provincial gladiators in action as a team of criminals, barbarians and other prisoners of war, disgraced soldiers and thrill seekers fight for the entertainment of the crowds and the Emperor. The gladiators will be brought to life by Britannia, one of the largest (and oldest) re-enactment groups in the U.K., they will be demonstrating the excitement and brutality of life in the late Roman period. Britannia have worked on over 150 TV and film projects, including Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and all five series of CBBC’s Horrible Histories. Be warned and expect some fake blood.

Wotton Underwood Village Fete, Aylesbury

Saturday 26 May 2018, 2.00pm – 6.00pm

The Wotton Underwood Village Fete has been created to be a fabulous family day out with something for everyone. From tours of the fabulous Wotton House itself (additional charge), Children’s games, livestock on show, a fun Dog Show (so please don’t leave Fido at home!!), a festival of ‘Celebration’ in flowers in the Church, food by ex-Michelin Star Chef Phillip Britten and drinks in the Bar Box (a great new concept for drinks)! There will be Live music, tombola, raffle with loads of prizes and a main cash prize of £100!! Also on sale will be local produce, teas and cakes, ice-creams, bric-a-brac, and plants. Bring the kiddies down this Bank Holiday Weekend on Saturday 26 May.

Working with Wool at Green Dragon Eco Farm

Monday 28 May 2018, 1.00am – 4.00pm

A family day of demonstrations and exhibitions at sheep-shearing time at Green Dragon Eco Farm in Hogshaw. As the weather gets warmer during May, the rare breed sheep no longer need their fleecy coats so it’s time for shearing. Visitors will have the opportunity to have a go at some of the craft techniques on show with the help of the experts. Demonstrations will take place on the farm and in the Eco Centre Events Room, where there will also be an exhibition of work for sale showcasing the amazing diversity of wool in art.

The Wedding Bells of Windsor, Windsor Castle

Monday 28 May 2018, 11.00am – 4.00pm

Celebrate royal weddings past and present with this musical extravaganza in the Moat Garden on Bank Holiday Monday. Windsor Castle has been a beautiful backdrop for royal weddings over many centuries. Take part in special wedding-themed storytelling sessions, picnic beneath the Round Tower and listen to live music throughout the day. Storytelling sessions will be delivered by Olivia Armstrong, as well as a special guest storyteller from Shakespeare’s Globe.

The day’s festivities will also include Bach to Baby concerts, the opportunity to meet serving soldiers from the Household Cavalry and an art workshop where you can create your own wedding bouquet or buttonhole.

All activities are free with a standard entry ticket.

Tot Fest 2018, Hitchin

Sunday 27 May 2018, midday – 5.00pm

TOT Fest is the ULTIMATE baby and toddler festival, and it is coming to Hitchin this May Bank Holiday! Held in the grounds of the historic Hitchin Priory there’s a jam-packed schedule of activities aimed specifically at pre-schoolers aged 4 months to 5 years. Parents and children alike can expect a unique, fun, interactive and varied programme of events, from back to back live shows on the festivals main stage, to football matches in the toddler sports village.

But the fun doesn’t stop here, there’s a creation tent, a mega baby rave, a soft play pavilion, live interactive weaning workshops, toddler balance bike ability track, science workshops, baby yoga, baby massage, signing workshops, tots cupcake factory and messy play, in-fact there are over 50 shows, classes and activities scheduled to keep the littlest of guests entertained all afternoon!

Splash and Play at the Legoland Windsor Resort

26 May – 3 June 2018

Get your swimsuits at-the-ready for an awesome family day out this May half term at Legoland Windsor Resort – winner of the Best Family Attraction for Berkshire in the recent Little Ankle Biters Awards. There’s something for all ages with Duplo Splash Safari, Duplo Drench Towers, and the exhilarating Raft Racers all open for May Half Term.

Plus the much-loved Lego friends return to Heartlake Harbour with their live show, Lego Friends to the Rescue.
